Using the Past: The Middle Ages in the Spotlight (Batalha, Portugal, Dec 10-12, 2020)

The conference aims at bringing together scholars concerned with the uses (and abuses) of the medieval past, and invites papers that address these uses in any historical period from the Middle Ages to the present. Some possible topics and approaches may include the following:
- Methodological Approaches: Terminology, Concepts, Categories.
- Academic Medievalism.
- The Reception of the Middle Ages.
- Contemporary Politics, Society and Mass Media.
- Tourism and the Middle Ages.

Participants are welcome to present in English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, or Italian, for either 3-paper sessions or individual papers (20 min). The submissions must include an abstract and a brief CV (300 words each, sent to medievallyspeaking@gmail.com by March 31, 2020).
